1922/1 Melbourne Mint KGVI Overdate Threepence – PCGS AU 58Item code: HC-11
The history of how the 1922/1 overdate came to fruition was shrouded in secrecy for many years. Their existence was even denied in the early days by the Melbourne Mint. Today, it is a favourite with pre decimal collectors and the key coin to any decent threepence collection. Of the estimated mintage of 1000, the Fenton example is far and away the nicest to have surfaced. The reverse is virtually uncirculated with a fully struck up ‘Emu’ and ‘Advance Australia’. The obverse has some minor contact to the KGV effigy and light scratch in the left field which are most likely the only reason the coin hasn’t achieved a Mint State grade from PCGS. Regardless, it is the finest graded by PCGS with only daylight second.
